What was the first ever grime track?

A spin-off from the genre Garage, the new underground sound originated from Hackney, East-London. The first grimey sounds were heard back in 2002; when classic grime tracks such as Wiley’s Eskimo and Dizzee Rascal’s I Luv You were born.

Best Old Skool Grime Songs - Dizzee Rascal and Wiley

It’s hard to pinpoint the first ever grime track, as the genre remained unnamed for many years before the title of ‘grime’ officially stuck.

In fact, Wiley’s early track Wot You Call It?, is referring to what do you call the sound, which would later to be known as grime.

Wiley is known as the Godfather of Grime, and many say his Eskimo instrumental is the first ever grime track to be made.

With early Grime growing in a time before the likes of  Youtube, Soundcloud, Facebook and pretty much the internet as we know it, East-London radio stations, Rinse FM and Deja Vu FM, is where London youths would tune in and to listen to the latest beats, MC’s and sets. So different from the world in which we live today.
