What do I pack? Am I going to enjoy my course? Will I make friends?

Don’t panic; it’s totally normal to feel this way. And, fortunately for you, we’re going to 100% prepare you for Freshers Week.

In this survival guide, we’ll answer all your Freshers questions, and provide you with some much need tips, advice and shortcuts.

Let’s get started!

What is Freshers’ Week?

In the UK, the term ‘Fresher’ is used to describe new students starting college or university. In America, the term ‘Freshman’ is more commonly used.

Freshers’ Week, sometimes referred to as ‘Welcome Week’, commences at the beginning of the academic year. It provides an ideal opportunity for the students to get used to their campus and surroundings, ask relevant questions and make new friends.

During Freshers’ Week, you can expect welcome tours, course introductions and, of course, a lot of partying.

Campuses, locals bars and nightclubs will usually see Freshers Week as the perfect opportunity to welcome the new arrivals with tonnes of events and low prices.

Of course, eager to make friends, Freshers will rise to the occasion. Celebrating their new found independence, students will often party non-stop for the entire week.

When is Freshers’ Week 2016?

As we mentioned earlier, Freshers Week will take place at the beginning of the academic year. This year, Freshers Week season will begin mid-September and will end within the first week in October.

Exact dates will vary across different campuses. You can easily check when Freshers’ Week starts on at your campus by visiting your University’s website.
